From Twitter to X | How to maintain a successful social media strategy

It’s a full-time job to keep up with the latest changes in social media in 2023. This week, we found out that Twitter is rebranding to X. Once again, everyone working in digital is trying to figure out how to approach this change, what it means for their strategy, and how they should adapt.

Thinking of updating your social media strategy? Wondering whether you should make any changes to your plan? Here are five tips to help you maintain a successful digital strategy.

1. Diversify your presence

This is the best time to prepare for the unexpected. While it might be tempting to put all your efforts into one platform, it’s risky to rely too much on one channel. This doesn’t mean that you should be active on every single social media channel. You don’t want to spread yourself too thin, as maintaining an active and engaging presence requires dedicated effort. Start with an audit to understand where you are, what’s working, and what is keeping you busy with no tangible results.

2. Experiment with new ideas

As the social media landscape constantly evolves, so should your strategies. To stay ahead of the curve, dedicate time each month to experiment with new ideas and test different channels (hello Threads), even at a personal level. Not all experiments will be an instant success, but they will provide useful insights that can shape your future approach.

3. Plan for any transitions

If you decide to move away from a platform, make sure to have a clear strategy in place for migrating your audience to other active channels. Similarly, when exploring a new platform, strategize how you'll introduce your brand, create content, and maintain engagement. You don’t want to lose touch with your loyal followers, do you?

4. Look beyond social media

Social media isn't the only way to build and engage your community. If you find that a particular platform isn't delivering the desired results, don't hesitate to explore alternative ways of connecting with your audience. Consider investing more time and effort into building a strong email newsletter or connecting with your audience through a blog.

5. Listen to your audience

Go where your audience is. As cliché as it sounds, you should only spend time where your followers are more comfortable in engaging with others. Whether it's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or any other platform, align your strategy with your audience's preferences to maintain a good social media presence.
